(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:12:29 +0000)
@Helen_otuk @BillWongOT for the individual it is often more about the occupational needs, for support person(S) about the techniques. #OTalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:12:47 +0000)

@LouiseHeskethOT this maybe a silly question but can somebody pls tell me how m&h and personalisation can be linked?#otalk

@kirstyes 2/2 #OTalk now more considered in training. Wonder if this always translates into practice as with much theory.

@OccyVicky @_beckyOT #OTalk I agree that education for patients/families/other staff is so important!
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:19:50 +0000)
@OTalk_Occhat @elaamleung @gilliancrossley is that because you’re not having to do it often? this seems to be a common concern #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:19:51 +0000)

(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:20:25 +0000)
@BillWongOT @OccyVicky @_beckyOT I second that… the “do no harm” principle is important… especially if it’s the caregivers. #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:21:03 +0000)
@LouiseHeskethOT m&h is probably the biggest thing I won’t feel confident in when qualified and start working. #otalk

@Helen_otuk @uk_james thanks I will take a look over that in more detail after the chat. #OTalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:21:19 +0000)
@clarewilding #otalk so important 2 listen 2 clients carefully, otherwise potential 4 horrendous injury
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:21:59 +0000)
@BillWongOT @LouiseHeskethOT I second that. I probably need intensive training if I were to work in this area. #otalk

@gilliancrossley @kirstyes I recently had some great training that made me think beyond the biomechanical #otalk also good to experience it being done to you
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:23:29 +0000)
@Helen_otuk @gilliancrossley here here! #OTalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:23:30 +0000)
@clarewilding #otalk I find m&h a bit confronting. Like 2 take it slowly & ask client wot works well 4 them
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:23:54 +0000)
@danielleb_90 @gilliancrossley I remembered the basics but forgot some aspects as it wasnt used much.I just ask if unsure or go on training courses #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:23:56 +0000)
@OccyVicky @BillWongOT @LouiseHeskethOT #OTalk I was very nervous about M&H when I started working – practice and training and more practice!
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:23:57 +0000)
@gilliancrossley RT @BillWongOT : @Helen_otuk assist in any type of transfer is probably a primary one for me. #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:24:12 +0000)
@gerbil10 #otalk is the issue with m&h that it is seen as something you do to someone rather than one step in an activity important to the individual?
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:24:17 +0000)
@Helen_otuk @gilliancrossley glad you had this experience, it is so much more then biomechanics. #OTalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:24:42 +0000)
@OccyVicky @gilliancrossley @kirstyes #OTalk I often think how I would feel being hoisted. Dignity and reassurance is so important
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:25:03 +0000)
@OTalk_Occhat RT @elaamleung : @OTalk_Occhat @Helen_otuk #otalk i get low back pain when pullin client whos lying on bed 2wards me even if bed is adjusted 2 waist height

@BillWongOT @OccyVicky @LouiseHeskethOT I think that’s where you should spend a lot of your CPD hours on if u want to work in this area. #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:25:18 +0000)
@kirstyes @uk_james @helen_otuk @communitycare Balance of client choice and carer safety has often been challenging in M&H #OTalk

@al_marhoon #OTalk @clarewilding i agee, specifically with children and young people with disabilities

@OT_Expert @gilliancrossley @danielleb_90 hi, I do forget certain techniques if not used regularly. #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:26:05 +0000)
@OccyVicky @gerbil10 #OTalk I worry this is the attitude taken by *some* care assistants.
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:26:26 +0000)
@BillWongOT @LouiseHeskethOT @OccyVicky I had an ex-classmate who had fears about that, too. She is probably no more than 5 ft tall. #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:26:26 +0000)
@gilliancrossley @LouiseHeskethOT I think that is common. Luckily every new job will train you! and you become more confident with time #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:26:32 +0000)
@kirstyes @OccyVicky @gilliancrossley Good CPD activity to be hoisted and reflect on it and how you would change your technique. #OTalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:26:45 +0000)
@gilliancrossley @clarewilding I agree! good to explain what you are doing. I think that is respectful #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:27:31 +0000)
@BillWongOT @al_marhoon @clarewilding yes… young ones can be tricky in their own right, especially if they function like babies. #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:28:11 +0000)
@kirstyes @gerbil10 Yes and to be fair is often taught out of context, e.g. To be used in an emergency scenario, or basic techniques. #OTalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:28:18 +0000)
@gilliancrossley @danielleb_90 yes I think that’s the best way and thing change so quick. Important to know when we need more advice/ training #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:28:25 +0000)
@gilliancrossley RT @gerbil10 : #otalk is the issue with m&h that it is seen as something you do to someone rather than one step in an activity important to the individual?
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:28:40 +0000)
@LouiseHeskethOT @gilliancrossley yes i think practice is key, so crucial for own safety and patient safety #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:29:01 +0000)
@uk_james @kirstyes @helen_otuk yes and I think more of a minefield where PAs are employed using direct payments – although I think law clear #otalk
(Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:29:13 +0000)
@OT_Expert #OTalk I find a lot of professions assume OTs are manual handling experts which puts a lot of pressure & high expectations on the OT
